Today I found a report by the FCC that talks about Internet performance of the most popular US providers. It is clear that a lot of people are having major issues with Comcast.
Here's a clip of the FCC's chart that highlights upload performance by the major providers. The FCC chart shows that Comcast / Xfinity has some of the WORST performance in the industry:
See where Comcast is? It's in the toilet, and it is not improving. In some countries Comcast's upload rate would not even be called broadband. Although Cox looks nearly as bad on this chart, in reality Cox's faster upload performance is from 2 times faster up to 100 times faster that Comcast!
Comcast and its marketing team loves to ignore the importance of upload speed. Do you take photos? Do you use Zoom or Skype or Google Hangouts for school or work? How about Dropbox or Microsoft Exchange? Do you use your smartphone on the Internet? If so, then upload performance is CRITICAL. In fact, downloads CANNOT happen without upload capability.
Some say Xfinity is so slow because Comcast is running 20 year old equipment in their offices, but I think it's because Comcast wants people to buy more expensive service - which, haha, does NOT fix the problems with this chart or your internet!
What NOT to do to fix it
Do NOT buy or rent new equipment! Do NOT pay for faster "downloads"! The problem is that Comcast artificially throttles upload performance, and throwing money randomly at the problem will never adjust the throttling that Comcast is doing in its corporate offices.
What to do to fix it.
Call up the Comcast sales line and tell them that you want faster upload speeds without changing your monthly fees or your contract terms. NEVER accept a change in plan, as new plans almost always come with substantial hidden fees.
If the sales person refuses to give you faster upload speeds, you have a couple options:
- Hang up and call back and get a more reasonable operator, or
- Hang up and call back and tell them that you want a discount on your monthly bill without a change in plan.
Tell me how you fixed your Comcast Speed Problems in the comments!
Because no one should pay for "fast broadband speeds" and get dial-up upload speed.
